The hotel is described as a boutique hotel but seemed to me to be simply a city centre place to stay. The room was very gloomy as was the rest of the hotel because of the very dark brown decoration everywhere. It wasn't until my 5th night (out of 6) that I discovered the room had blinds which could be drawn down at night. Until then we slept with just the screens over the windows but fortunately the room was at the side of the hotel so not a lot of light came in from the street. When I talked to a receptionist about the lack of drapes she did not mention the blinds or ask if we had discovered how to pull them down. The bathroom was just big enough for the bath, with overhead shower, and the usual fittings. Could have done with some updating. It was also very quiet for a city centre hotel. There didn't appear to be much uptake of the bar or restaurant so presumably, like us, everyone preferred to eat out elsewhere. The staff could have
"Very accommodating and kindness much appreciated"
I recently traveled to the Whitehall for a business conference at Loyola. My travel plans ended up changing and I found myself with a reservation for the wrong day. The attendant at the front desk could not have been more helpful with my situation and ended up providing me a lovely room, classic in style and very luxurious. Every person I encountered was clearly interested in making sure I was satisfied, and I can find no fault with any aspect of my stay. It is close to everything I am interested in seeing an doing and will be my go-to hotel when I need to stay downtown.
"Close to everything "
We stayed here while I was having surgery at the Gold Coast Surgery Center. It was just 1/2 block up Delaware and 1 block down Michigan then the entrance is around the corner of the Water Tower Place Mall at the Freshii restaurant, where the professional elevators are located. Now that I got that out of the way, the hotel was very nice. Breakfast was ok- eggs are great, omelette was very good, breakfast potatoes were good and the fresh fruit was great but French toast and pancakes were just ok. We had dinner at Mei’s corner. Service was a bit slow but there was only 1 waitress in the entire restaurant so that is understood. I had the vegetable dumplings steamed, which I really liked, the dipping sauce was really tasty adding a great layer of flavor and I had the hot and sour soup which was good. My husband had the spring rolls, crab Rangoon and the chicken lo mein. The lo mein was a smaller portion but just fine. Just thought I would warn you if you are expecting the traditional, stuff your face entree size. He liked to spring rolls but the crab Rangoon missed the mark. They were almost like a heavily fried crab cake instead of the traditional lightly battered appetizer we were expecting. We went over to the bar for a drink and wished we could have had more time to eat there another night. It’s a very pretty space and gets great reviews. The menu looked really good and they have a pizza oven!! The bartender was very friendly. Everyone we encountered from the valet, to the front desk, to housekeeping to just staff in the halls were very friendly. The hotel is kept very well and our room, the junior suite, was a big room. I will definitely stay again.
"Great location, but just o.k. as hotels go!"
I recently stayed at the Whitehall Hotel for a professional seminar as it was the host hotel of the event and offered a discounted rate. The hotel is an older hotel that needs upgraded amenities and modernization. I love the location of the hotel as it was easily accessible to restaurants, shopping and sights. The rooms were dark and dated. They could use a complete renovation from carpet, to tile and paint. The bathroom should be a complete gut job.
"Our third stay - better than ever"
This is a unique and beautiful hotel. We already loved it a couple of years ago, and this time it was even better, as we were given a room on the 14th floor with a lake view. The bed was wide and comfortable, the bathroom luxurious, and the whole atmosphere of the place very service-oriented. We hope to be able to go back again one day.
