Beautiful hotel, incredible views. Wonderful service, front desk & concierge service exceptional. A true five star hotel. Cannot say enough good things about the staff. Extremely professional staff but never stuffy always relaxed, friendly and incredibly helpful. Highly recommend the Yeatman hotel for your stay in Porto, Portugal.Comment of P. This is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location with stunning views across the Douro from Vila Nova de Gaia towards Porto's old town and ribeira. Rooms are all large with river views, with prices increasing in line with room size. Food and wine are first rate and service generally excellent, though we did experience a bit of attempted penny-pinching on a cocktail voucher. Expect to pay accordingly.Comment of C. We stayed for 2 nights at this wonderful hotel. Rooms are spacious, staff is very friendly and service minded. Restaurant is fantastic and do not forget to book a tour of the wine cellar where you will get an overview of what Portugal can offer you in fine wines. The view from the room on the Douro river and the old city centre is breath taking!Comment of L. Filip, Belgium the 2015-11-10
"Breathtaking accommodation and views"
My husband and I spent 2 nights at The Yeatman and were very sorry to leave. The hotel sits on a hill across the river from Porto with spectacular views of the river and city, which is easily accessible. One morning we walked over across the bridge. The public spaces are luxuriously appointed and there's a gorgeous pool, though it was a bit too chilly to use it while we were there. We left our car with the valet and entered the impressive lobby. We had arrived around lunch time and were warmly greeted by a fellow from the front desk, who handled the formalities. Our suite wasn't ready yet so we decided to grab a quick lunch since we had a cellar tour and port tasting scheduled for 2 pm at Taylor's, which owns the Yeatman and is situated a short distance down the road from it. The woman who seated us on the outdoor patio lacked the charm and manners of the front desk team, however, our waiter made up for it and we had a good simple lunch while enjoying the view. When we finished lunch we went back to the front desk and were escorted to the Bacchus suite, which we reached by walking through the well-appointed spa. It took us a couple of times to figure out how to find it subsequently, but it was an ideal location, very private and quiet. We didn't use any spa services while there but the facilities looked first class and the ladies who worked there were delightful. If we had been wearing socks, this suite would have totally knocked them off us! It's aptly named because it is truly fit for the gods. There's a huge round bed on a turntable so you can angle it anyway you like to take advantage of the view or the flatscreen TVs, etc. But who needs TV when you have a million dollar view' There was a big round copper tub and a gas fireplace that you could enjoy from the bed and tub area or the comfy seating area. If you insist on working there's a spacious desk and if you want to play a fully loaded mini-bar. The bathroom was nearly as large as the living area with an enormous shower for 2, dual basins, large closets and every amenity you could wish for. In addition, we enjoyed 2 terrace seating areas, one outdoors as well as one indoors which featured a wood burning fireplace. Both areas had comfortable furniture for lounging and soaking in the panorama of Porto. The decor was stylish and opulent with some clever touches. There was even a cushy dog bed if you happened to bring your pooch. After returning from Taylor's we decided to kick back on the terrace, listen to music and bliss out on the view. There was a knock on the door and a smiling server arrived with a bottle of a very good Portuguese sparkling wine, a basket of fruit and 2 slate plates, one with charcuterie and condiments and the other with sweets. The suite also offered a complementary small bottle of LBV port. Although we had booked dinner at the hotel's gastronomic restaurant later that evening, we couldn't resist sampling some of the goodies. I'm not sure when we've felt so pampered. I'll review the fine dining restaurant separately, but can attest that the breakfast buffet was outstanding and you could also get cooked items if you chose. We found more than enough to satisfy us on the buffet. Paradise wasn't perfect, though it was pretty close. WiFi and the TVs didn't work in our room (we didn't care at all about the TVs) and it took a couple of service visits to get them going, and sometimes there wasn't anyone out front to take the car, but these were minor inconveniences. Any time we called for help with something they were very quick to respond. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would unreservedly recommend the Yeatman.
Outstanding hotel, facilities are excellent and the view of Porto is incredible at dusk. The spa was very nice and the breakfast buffet featured such items as champaign and caviar. We were unable to secure a dinner reservation, but the hotel has a Michelin rated restaurant on the property.
"Grand old dame with excellent views "
This is a very good traditional very well run hotel with excellent service and stunning views over to Porto and the ribiero. On the port side next to many of the port houses tasting rooms the hotel has extremely good rooms all with breathtaking views. The spa is excellent and the sorter our my sore back from walking. You truly cannot go far wrong with it. It is quiet inside and quite formal but if you stay here that’s what you want.
"Hard to beat this!"
Strikes highest scores practically on all counts. Service, views, rooms, food etc. I can't think of any other accomodation in the area that can come any closer to The Yeatman It well deserves the rating showm herein!
"Nice view but arrogant and unfriendly"
Do not plan to enjoy a sundowner at the terrace of this location unless you are a hotel guest. Rude staff will prevent you to sip a drink outside even if there are enough tables available. Non guests could be former guests (as me) or guests in the future, you never know. Big fail, sorry for the nice view. Eventually, we had a port wine in one of the cellars nearby...
