The Thompson Chicago soars high above tree-lined streets in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. This accommodation showcases classic architecture with traces of Gothic influence. Located 1 block from the Magnificent Mile's world-renowned shopping corridor and the electric nightlife along Rush Street, this hotel stands 2 blocks from Oak Street boutiques and the hike-and-bike path along Lake Michigan. The Observatory and the Museum of Contemporary Art are located 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from this property. The Thompson Chicago is also close to the train station.
"Very pleasantly surprised..."
Our last trip to Chicago consisted of staying at three properties: The Loews, Chicago Athletic Association, and the Thompson. We waffled over which property to stay the most nights, and ultimately decided that the Thompson would draw the short straw and we would stay there for one, and the other properties for two nights. That was our big mistake. The Thompson turned out to be an amazing place in every respect- cool neighborhood, upscale, fantastic customer service, great adjoining restaurant, awesome view, spacious rooms, coolest shower ever...what am I forgetting... If I could downgrade them for anything it would be that one of the elevators was out of order causing delays in the morning. But, stuff happens. And we were on vacation, so we had a little time to spare. When we go back, I have no question that the Thompson will be our first choice when it comes to options on where to lay our heads for the night.
This hotel is in a nice quiet location in the city. Perfect access to “magnificent mile” water front, restaurants and bars. The hotel is quite new and has a real funky feel to it. The rooms are a very good size, beds are comfy, bathroom large with a great shower ( rain shower) and very clean! All the staff are wonderful and caring. The bar area is very nice (only complaint is the bar snacks should be complimentary considering the cost of the drinks). Beware there is no coffee making facilities in the room you have to get dressed and serve your self in the lobby.
"One of my favorite gems!!!!"
This is our 6th time to the Thompson in Chicago and i just love this place. Very modern/rustic warm touches. The bar is one of my favorite spots with all the plants and brick and velvet sofas with delish drinks and food. The rooms are on the small side but man we had a stunning view...and city hotel rooms are pretty small so that’s not really a big deal for us. We walked all over the place, you are surrounded by the best restaurants and across the street from the Pancake house which is so good! Everyone is extremely friendly and so helpful. I highly recommend this place. Close to the stadium if you are in town for a game!
"Friendly hotel in great location"
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff is definitely above the usual Chicago "thank-you-for-your-business". Quiet street but everything (except the Loop) is a short walking distance. The room had great view (as promised). No kettle of coffee-maker in the room, but the free coffee and tea in the bar were excellent. A bottle of water in the room would have been a nice touch.
"Beautiful view of Lake Michigan"
We reserved a lakeview room and we're so glad we did, beautiful view! The room was modern, beds were quite comfortable and the bath was very roomy. We attended a wedding in the hotel which was done to perfection. Thompson made the weekend perfect.
