"A little gem in the city"
This is the second year in a row we stayed at the Townhouse Hotel. A superb little spot with everything you need - a lovely, well appointed room (not massive, but big enough), clean, a lovely ambiance, great location and a really, really good breakfast which was included. Parking is a bit of a rip off and should be included in the hotel rate in my view, but other than that just great! Will be back for Cape Town Cycle Tour next year...
"A decent hotel, but in a sketchy neighborhood"
I was on a group tour and we stayed here while in Cape Town. The hotel was nice enough, decent clean room, decent restaurant, I have no complaints about the accommodations. But the neighborhood feels unsafe, especially after dark. Many vagrants and panhandlers. A couple from our group was followed by an unsavory person when they left the hotel for a walk, and thankfully the hotel staff noticed and intervened. But in general, there's not much near here to see, I'd look for a hotel with a better location.
Had to stay in the Cape Town CBD for business and Townhouse was the closest to the meeting venue. What a pleasant surprise! Service was incredible, from the airport pick up, to check in and transport arrangements, so kudos to the team. Stayed in room 205 and was initially concerned that it is too close to the road, with possible road noise. Turned out to be a gorgeous, large room, with a huge balcony, and perfectly appointed. Very quiet, very comfy bed. Will certainly return to this hotel if I have to stay in the CBD again.
"Clean, comfortable room in hotel with good location"
It was convenient being right in town and within walking distance to so many places. The view of Dunkin Donuts made me laugh, but the hotel offers so much more. Good breakfast buffet (just don't try to enter a minute before 6:30am (even if the tour guide has made arrangements). Friendly staff. Gorgeous, renovated bathroom. Would gladly stay here again.
"Nice place to stay in center of town"
This was the last place I stayed after 3 weeks of traveling through South Africa and it was such a relief to arrive here. I had room 902. Decent size room with flat screen tv and BBC and Al Jazeera (at least at first- the last day Al Jazeera was gone -replaced by TNB which is a Christian broadcasting station. You'd think if they were going to disappear Al Jazeera- this was during the flap with Qatar- they'd replace it with another international news station like CNN or Sky). WiFi was the fastest I had in South Africa. Room had partial view on the side of Table Mountain. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of closet space. Nice bathroom and products. Low wattage hairdryer (so if you have even a medium amount of hair it won't do). The room also had an electric kettle and teas/ coffee as well as a safe and outlets to recharge your electronics. Heat worked well. Lighting could be better. Front desk was helpful especially during the day. Different staff in the evenings weren't quite as top notch. While the rooms were quite clean and well maintained I was surprised to find that a dirty carpet in one of the elevators stayed un-vacuumed during my entire stay. The lounge on the ground floor is quite pleasant if you are not out and about and get sick of your room. There is plenty to do in the neighborhood: District 6 museum is right down the street, the Castle, Company Gardens, Parliament building, Long and Adderley Streets and the Greenmarket are are all within easy walking distance. Bo Kaap is also walkable though a bit farther. I recommend this hotel and would definitely come back if I were in Cape Town again.
