Nestled in the heart of Pelourinho, the historic quarter of the UNESCO World Heritage listed city, Villa Bahia offers a unique holiday experience with exclusive gastronomy.
Showcasing authentic Portuguese-era details, the two adjoining 17th- and 18th-century colonial homes boast two luscious garden courtyards, a refreshing plunge pool and a panoramic terrace to create a charming city base. Each of the beautiful rooms at Villa Bahia has been carefully renovated to preserve its original spirit and overlooks the district's colourful façades.
Located in Pelourinho, Villa Bahia is just a short walk away from the Jorge Amado Museum, Elevador Lacerda and Praca da Sé.
This is a beautiful hotel wth extremely friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was amazing with tropical fruits, breads, coffee, tea, jams and so many other items. We had dinner in the restaurant on our last night - it was delicious. The location is great - walking distance to many sights. Highly recommend this hotel.
Second stay in Salvador within a two week period. Booked Villa Bahia on the recommendation of a local guide. The staff was superb, the recommending an excellent restaurant for dinner and taking care to insure that as a single traveler I did not accidentally wander into areas which they consider unsafe. The breakfast is excellent - a full spread brought to your table, rather than the simple continental buffet. As many others have commented the location is central to all the historical sites.
A wonderful place to stay! The location could not be better. The desk staff speaks English which is so helpful and they are so nice!!!! For breakfast the buffet comes to each table. So plentiful and good. The rooms were large with AC although the beds were very very soft. Don't miss the roof terrace especially at sunset! I definitely recommend staying there!!!!
" Stunning hotel with superb staff"
After a relaxing week in Jericoacoara beach we headed to Salvador, right in the middle of everything, in the Pelourinho area, so we weren't expecting a quiet hotel, where one could take an afternoon nap to wait out the sweltering midday heat. Based on the pics online, Vila Bahia looked beautiful, but as an experienced traveler, I know you only find out the real truth once you arrive. Man were we floored. First of all, the location and quality combination cannot be matched anywhere else near the historical center in Salvador. We arrive and walk into what looks like a beautifully curated museum, with antique furniture pieces and Afro Brazilian art everywhere. Every visual detail is well thought of and the colonial old building itself is masterfully preserved/renovated. Walking through the halls and different floors, from the beautiful indoor garden breakfast area, to the pool and amazing rooftop garden with great views of the High City (where you can request to have breakfast as well), this place was stunning in every way. The staff was SO attentive and the room was always impeccably clean (clean towels too) EVERY TIME WE CANE BACK IN, it made us think the hotel was empty, until we realized it was fully booked. Upon entering our room, Moçambique, a beautiful rendition of what a Brazilian aristocrat's bedroom would look like 200 years ago with massive farm house windows, we were concerned about how loud it would be with the constant music and foot traffic at "Largo do Cruzeiro de São Francisco". We asked Claudio, the Argentine guitar player at the front desk if we could switch rooms and he was super accommodating and showed us a couple of other smaller rooms on the top floor, both with private decks. It was tempting but we closed the windows just to check the noise and realized our original room was completely sealed off once we did that! The rooms: All rooms are decorated to represent different groups of people who contributed to the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of Brazil). The breakfast: I bet if you eat everything they offer you can wait until dinner. The hostess extraordinaire, whose name I forget is a delight at breakfast and at the bar during the day and always eager to help. The staff as a whole was amazing. We would highly recommend Vila Bahia to everyone coming to the Historical Center in Salvador and would definitely stay there again.
We went to this restaurant on our first day in Salvador (we were staying at another hotel). The food was delightful, prepared most delicately, light but satisfying. The wines were well chosen and the service was attentive and well-paced. The dining room is absolutely charming. Many of the guests were French!
