"Retro feel boutique hotel"
Friend of mine had booked at the hotel and at first tried finding a cheaper nearby hotel but via their webpage got a very good deal so went for it.Perhaps because of the very cheap deal I got room no 1 which is situated behind the dining area and there are no adjacent rooms but the room though smaller than my friends far excelled my expectations!! In front was a small sitting area done up with retro furniture and posters the room itself was more than adequate comfy bed cable tv great shower small safe for valuables.Breakfast was in a dining room decked out in retro style and had a good selection of hot food, pastries, cheeses and cold cuts with a variety of breads good coffee/tea and fruit juices.Service was good and prompt.Other nice touches was umbrellas for use of guests the wifi worked flawlessly. The location was good not far away from Prague castle near the tram with. Lot of pubs, restaurants and convenience shops in the area even a Thai massage place where I got a much needed foot massage(600 kroner). To sum up a hotel with character good service, good breakfast and would have no hesitation staying there again or recommending it to others.A thanks to the front desk staff (Katyana') who were most helpful.
"Great location, fantastic quirky hotel"
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, the welcome was warm, staff very helpful and the bedroom/breakfast more than I expected for the price. The decor is quirky, vibrant and fun which may not suit all tastes but appealed to me. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of options for continental and cooked with additions of treats such as smoked salmon and cake as well as the more usual eggs, cheese, sausages, yoghurts, fruit etc. The Hotel is hidden in a back street on the Castle side of the river however its only a 5-10 minute walk from Charles Bridge and really well linked to trams, buses and metro so getting around is easy. My bedroom was light despite there being no window as it faced the central atrium and sky light. It was comfortable, clean and included tv, wifi and dads are available from a library free of charge. Opposite is a delightful little bar for drinkers and non drinkers like me where I was delighted to find a comfy chair and a range of different teas including herbal. Its close to a couple of bars however the area is very quiet and aware from the crowds although they are easy to reach if you want to. Excellent and would stay again without hesitation.
We have stayed at Sax a few times, and have always found it to be more than acceptable. However... After a shaky start when we were given a lower standard room to what we had booked, followed by an offer of a suite for 2 nights then switch back to original room, we were finally given the room that we'd booked. This was after a long train journey from Budapest, not the most relaxing start to our stay. No tea/ coffee making facilities in our room, but otherwise, the room was faultless. Huge room, good bathroom with bath and shower. Safe was a bit teeny, but we managed to cram most of our valuables in it. The buffet style breakfast was plentiful, though the hot food had been allowed to get cold (the burners under the hot trolley looked like they'd gone out) This was 30 mins before the end of breakfast 'service'. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine in our room, and it arrived promptly, with champagne flutes, and was well chilled. Though this hotel is up a bit of a hill, this wasn't a problem for us, though travellers with mobility problems might not find this the case.
"Helpful staff for sure!"
This hotel has good size rooms but I found the bed too soft and sagging which is not good for your back! The breakfast is good, but arriving late for it may mean that you will not have much choice and not much to eat as it may not get replenished. The bathtub is high so it may be awkward for some people to get in it to take a bath or shower. If you get an inner courtyard room, you will hear the staff setting up the breakfast at 6 o'clock in the morning and sometimes hear conversations during the day, but in general the hotel is quiet. It could be that the rooms facing the street would be good as they face a quiet street. Depending on your taste you will either love the design or hate it. Be warned that the Wi-Fi in the rooms for phones is very weak, however, there is a laptop provided which one can use. The location is good because is away from the tourist crowds but a 20 minute walk to the Old Town and it is very close to the Prague Castle. By the way, you should not be fussy about frayed, worn, grey bathroom towels. In the end, though, it is a good value.
"Abba in Mala Strana"
Overwhelmingly rich decorated retro style hotel..Friendly reception staff and slightly cranky breakfast employees.. But yeah, if you are listening to Abba's greatest hits every single day it is quite understandble that it takes an effort to release your daily smile.. Room was very spacious but the airco sounded like a real time aquarium..Annoying because for sea sounds I 'd rather go to a beach resort
