"Stay Away: There Are Many Better Options"
On the positive side, the line staff (bellman, parking attendants and waiters and waitresses in the restaurant) are excellent. The positives stop there. The negatives: 1. The management at this hotel is the absolute worst I have encountered in many years of staying at Starwood properties. Management's philosophy is easily summed up: the guest is the enemy. In the world of hospitality, this does not work. 2. The hotel is tries very hard to be Vegas in Hollywood. It fails, but it makes for a miserable experience for guests, sharing the hotel with lots of people who are not staying there. It is a party scene and not a pretty one. 3. The hotel is not family friendly in any sense (and I have a high tolerance). As an example: when we were there, the police were called to arrest a young woman who had bitten another woman's lip off! Staff candidly admitted that this sort of behavior is not atypical. If you have kids, of any age, you do not want to be at this hotel. You do not want them to see what goes on there or be tempted to become involved. 4. The hotel is showing its age. There are many better options for hotels. If you just want to visit Hollywood, plan on spending a day, or part of a day, there, but don't stay in Hollywood. Other parts of LA are much more beautiful and welcoming. If you feel that you must stay in Hollywood, try one of the brand new hotels, the Everly or the Dream. I stay in hotels frequently and all over the world. In a word, this hotel is a DISASTER. Stay away.
"Glam and comfortable! Great location if you are going to Pantages/Hamilton"
We stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The rooftop pool was an amazing amenity for a morning swim (my friend did this - she had to the pool to herself!) We were across from the Pantages Theatre and there were many good restaurants nearby including Delphine's, Wood and Vine, plus a Starbucks just down the block. The hotel has that amazing glam W vibe and has excellent security (card key unlocks the outside door at night). The area around the hotel is mixed, but we didn't feel unsafe at any time. When we checked in we got a promo card for Uber, which we tried out and loved. I am not a fan of Uber, but it really works in LA. We used Super Shuttle to and from the airport - it worked really well.
"Good location, thin walls and so-so staff"
Meh. What can I say. Try somewhere else....maybe the Roosevelt. This place is decent, just not at their current rates. Also, the walls are sooooooooo thin that they leave a sound machine on at check in. No bueno. Worst of all, they tried to add a $500 “incidental”deposit on at check in. No where at reservation did I agree to this. It’s some sort of scam that you should run away from!!
"All that Glitters is not Gold at the W Hollywood"
I decided to spend the weekend at the W Hollywood for my birthday. I am a Starwood Platinum member and we arrived at 12:30 pm and we were told that the room was not ready and we might need to wait until 4:00 pm from a very unfriendly and unhelpful checkin woman at the SPG counter. BTW, no “Happy Birthday” or any acknowledgment of the birthday. We were told the room would be put in a queue to get cleaned and it should take about an hour. Checked back around 2:00 pm, no further update other than “they are working on it.” I spoke to a manger named Vanessa and she said something was wrong with the original room and that she would work on it. She was much friendlier and seemed to want to help us. Soon after speaking with her, we got our room. I had used my SPG suite upgrade and the room was very nice and spacious but the view was of other buildings and cranes. Out to dinner and back for a drink at the W Hotel’s outside bar with the cozy fire pits. Great atmosphere but one problem, no service ! There were no servers outside. I went inside to ask to get someone to come outside. I don’t mind paying $15 for a shot of Baileys but less happy with no service. The same theme occurred in the morning at breakfast. . No servers and no greeter. Finally someone came and she had an attitude. There were no apologies just a bad attitude. Back tot he room and noticed there were stained sheets. Ok, now three strikes and you’re out. I decided to let the manger Vanessa know about the various problems and she seemed concerned and offered to pay for our free Platinum breakfast. I told her it’s complimentary and she offered nothing more. I also mentioned to the manager Vanessa it was my birthday weekend and still no acknowledgment. Most of the workers did not smile and had a bad attitude at the hotel. Next time, I would look for a different hotel. My experience was that the W Hotel Hollywood is way below the standard of most other Starwood properties. The hotel is like Hollywood, shiny on the outside but empty on the inside.
"Great location yet poor recognition for Platinum"
What a disappointing weekend at W Hollywood for my birthday. Upgrades were not approved and I was forced to pay more if I want a suite. Front desk insisted that I couldn't get any suite unless I was willing to pay $300 extra per night. In other W location such as W Times Square, as Platinum, I always get upgrades in a large suite or corner suite. I have contacted the GM Leon Young and the W Insider a priori and when I checked in, Imani rejected my requests for better room. The "fabulous" room was very lacking and inadequate - no coffee machine/maker, no tea, no bathrobe, no sandals. Very tiny room for spg platinum. This is horrific way of celebrating my birthday. I will never ever visit this Starwood properties again.
