W New York Times Square hotel is ideally located, in the Theater District, just steps from the ball drop, Broadway shows and shopping of Times Square. Sultry downtown and renowned museums are just a subway ride away.
"Very good "
Superbly located on Lexington Ave close to St Patrick's cathedral / top of the rock / saks etc but far enough away from Times Square to feel somewhat calm. Checkin We walked past the doormen who was on his phone so was unable to welcome us / say hi / help with luggage despite having pulled up outside in a cab. Actual checkin felt somewhat rushed by a slightly disheveled looking male receptionist - all in all I've had better welcomes. The lobby / bar area is on the face of it quite cool looking but I suspect is actually aging badly. However all the common areas were clean despite being really busy. Room Our room was average in size for NYC despite us booking an upgraded size to queen. Our view was of Lex which was nice enough. The room decor is smart corporate but again starting to age in design - that said everything was perfectly clean and all in working order. The bathroom was really good and looked very recently renovated. It had a super walk in shower and floor to ceiling tiles. One of the better bathrooms I've stayed in at this price bracket. We didn't eat or drink on site. I would strongly recommend Smith and wollensky for dinner and Ess-bagel for breakfast. Both located 2 mins from the hotel. If the rate was similar to what we paid 300$ I would return however be warned on the night we stayed the hotel was seeking $600 for late reservations. Not remotely worth that!
"i HAD A GREAT TIME AND A GREAT ROOM"
I spent 3 days at this Hotel and loved it! My check-in was pleasant and welcoming. There was construction going on nearby so I walked past it at first. The bottom floor is connected to a Latin inspired restaurant. You have to get on an elevator to get to the reception floor. As I stated the check-in was quick and pleasant. There is a bar/lounge on the reception floor with private booths and various tables, flat screens and a bar. My one peeve with the Check-in was this "$25.00 a day Destination Fee"! I was unaware of this until I checked in. However you also get a $20 a day bar voucher for the lounge. So if you are willing to drink at their bar, the destination Fee ends up being about $5.00 a day. I assume this is a way to bring business to the bar/lounge. The elevators to the rooms are on the same floor as the reception but there is a bit of a maze getting to the elevators that correspond with your Floor. The hallways for the Elevators is a bit dark. So call it "ambiance". After a couple of drinks late at night, "I call it "a sobriety test"! lol I like that you must use your Hotel room Card to operate the elevators. That extra layer of security is welcomed. My Room was very nice. Though not huge, it was sufficient for one or two persons to reside comfortably. I was on the 11th floor (#1133) I believe and had a decent view. The picture window was large but had shade to pull down. The apartment complex across Broadway felt a little more invasive than they probably were. lol I have complains of dust and uncleanliness from other reviewers. My Hotel Room was spotless. The Furniture looked new and comfortable but it was a bit low to the ground for a man of my years! lol They furniture could definitely be higher. I guess that is way modern furniture is made. My Bed as clean and comfortable. I hated the pillows. They had very little filling o them. The bar was well stocked and the room had everything from alcoholic beverages to Condoms!! lol There was a well functioning iron, Flat screen TV, hair Dryer, Safe, etc. The shower was very clean and plenty of hot water. The sink had one of those modern bowls that sits up. they are pretty to look at but thy get on my nerves! There were plenty of towels and washcloths. They were replenished each day. I slept in until 1:00pm one day (it was a hard night) and they cleaning staff had no issue. They waited until I got dressed and went out. When I returned a few hours later, the room was cleaned and new towels were supplied. As an extra level of Security, there is a security person who stands outside the first floor elevators and checks your room cards before you are allowed in after a certain hour. My check out was easy and there were no additional hidden charges". I would highly recommend the W New York at Times Square. It may not be as glamorous as some of the other W Hotels but it was very nicely appointed. The Location was Perfect. The price was reasonable through Hotel.com and I really enjoyed my stay. I plan to stay there again very soon.- Howard Chambers Jr.
"Sign of the Times Square"
Such a sad, sad place to visit. The vibrancy of years gone by has become another tired and worn looking city. Stores are shuttered and many have been replaced by the boring shops that can be found in any Midwest Mall- Sephora, H &M .. you get the idea. The only reason I would ever consider returning to the city at all would be The Thanksgiving parade.
"Not a luxury experience"
I can't believe this is considered a luxury hotel. Light bulbs hanging from holes in the ceilings in the showers, outlets falling off the walls. Hairdryer started smoking as soon as it was turned on, shower flooded the bathroom. And our "Broadway view" consisted of a window-washer's platform blocking the view which was there all weekend. I have never been to a "luxury hotel" which wouldn't handle UPS or FedEx dropoffs... the Sheraton down the street was far more helpful than the staff at the W were. There are other hotels to stay at where the rooms are better maintained and the staff is more helpful.
"Not good "
W Barcelona - Wonderful W Koh Samui - WOW W Time Square - Why did I stay here Rooms in dire need of a serious clean. How can bed side tables be baked in dust. The only reason this isn't a one star is because it at least has a bed and shower that serves the purpose. Starwood, just because this is located ideally for Time Sq/Broadway, doesn't mean you can overlook cleaning it. Change the name or upgrade the service because this one ruins the W brand. Awful. Stay away.
