the place was in a perfect location and very clean and quiet . we were able to walk out the door to every place we needed to go to. We were able to find a great deal so hope we can do that again. customer service was great too...
"NO HOT WATER"
i don't think it is extraordinary for all of us to expect hot water in our hotel rooms. I checked in at 6 pm, noted the issue immediately. cook a cold shower and let the front desk know of the issue before heading out to dinner. when i returned at midnight, this was not addressed. the engineers came by and was unable to address the problem at 130 am. plan was for a shower in the morning before we headed out to enjoy the city, so you can understand my frustration at the situation i was in. i spoke with the evening manager who offered me limited options. the hotel was full so i was denied any options for transferring to another room. despite there being 10+ spg properties in NYC, the manager (Nicolas) would not transfer me to a sister hotel. I asked for compensation my reducing my hotel charge, which he denied because I was booked under the government employee rate. I was able to get a SPG Platinum customer service rep on the phone who was able to coordinate cancelling the second night of my hotel stay, but informed me that the manager would not budge. I immediately booked a stay at the St. Regis on 5th ave. for the next night which was a delight. I felt like the manager went the extra mile to try to NOT address the situation at hand, and really treated me like a second class guest because I booked the stay using the government employee rate. don't offer the rate if you're going to treat your customers differently. be kind and try to work with your customers when they approach you in private for a resolution to the problem.
"Friendly staff, great location, the typical W Hotel which is great!"
We stayed at the W in Union Square on our way to Tanzania. Our stay was short and sweet. The location is great for small shopping and restaurants. Our room was the typical W Hotel style with nice beds a view of the city and normal W Hotel bathroom products. My only complaint was that I could hear the TV from the room next door in the middle of the night. I could have been extra sensitive as I was on MTS and perhaps the TV was super loud. The lounge area, bar, and restaurant have a nice vibe. I was also offered a welcome drink by the friendly staff. We were upgraded to a larger room as I was traveling with my 15 and 13-year-old. Overall, we enjoyed our short but brief stay at the W Hotel in Union Square!
"Not an upscale hotel - maybe a ***"
This hotel is not of the level SPG standards would expect. The rooms,s are average, at best, staff ok, location good but you can do WAY better that this hotel. Frankly, just not top to the standards of a W, much less an upscale hotel in NY, First time here, but not for W hotels but this is a cut way below. We are are a 4+ star hotel travel, so put in in perspective but this is NOT a 4-star by any measure. Moreover, be prepared to pay for Internet 9we and to alert them to our Gold SPG status but they get very hard to get your to pa for Internet). Internet it terrible, bar is fair, restaurant 9for NY) is mediocre so there are just far better places to satay, The manager here must be new or detached, he/she is not a great oriented exec. In NY, you have to up your game but not here. Book this hotel as a last resort but definitely do not reach to for this one. We have travel the world and seek great hotel staff and facilities and this is just well below its stated level, The shower had mold all over but the room was "standard" nothing special but no big issues. Look elsewhere. To be fair, no major probs just a lower standard.
"New year in New York"
We got a great deal online to stay at the W it’s a cool hotel in a great location the staff were very nice the only thing I didn’t like was the toilet in the lobby bar is absolutely horrible it’s downstairs cold and dank
