"Nice and Comfortable Hotel"
We had room 2803 on floor 28. Its quite a big hotel and the rooms are really very large by western standards so you find them very well set out with seperate toilet, shower and powder area. There was also a big bath tub in our room. As well they are two air con dials which set the temperatures at different levels in the sitting room area and bedroom if you wish. We had a king size bed, the mattress was a bit hard but after day one we got used to it. You get two bottles of complimentary water each day and you can buy more if you wish but exxy in the hotel (walk through the rear door and to the left over the road there is a tiny sore open 24 hours which sell water for 2 yuan (about 40 cents) a bottle as well as cold beer cheap and wine and other small bits and pieces. When we arrived our room was 28 degrees celcius but it was down to 20 degrees after a few hours- it took a while because the room was big. We slept well.Power points in the room a mixed bag but most took aussie plus ok so no need for an adaptor. Breakfast..... mainly caters for the chinese guests but there was bacon , eggs toast, fruit and tea and coffee. The food was fine and we tried some chinese food as well , a good selection and all good. Lunch... We were on an Aussie tour and lunch was included at the hotel. Plenty to eat-mainly vegetable dishes, some seafood and chicken all a bit bland but quite ok. Think 5.5/10 to give you an idea. Dinner...... The hotel does a buffet and charges around 240 yuan (around $45). Its very overpriced so think about eating outside the hotel There are plenty of choices not more than 5-10 minutes walk away.Turn right from hotel entrance and walk over road and past the hospital and then walk over crossing and you will see a number of eating places. No English signs and all chinese. There is one with a large glass front where you can see in and there is buffet food on display. This place charges 79 yuan per person for entrée, bbq mains which you cook yourself on the table - they supply a little bbq and desert and draft beer. Its one of the first ones you will come to from the hotel and worth seeking out. We had seafood and meat and entrees and ice cream and beers- great food and very good value. There are plenty of other places to eat but our local guide was walking out with her sister just as we came along and she recommended it to us- There is a sign with 79Y on it outside. Overall this hotel is a genuine 4 star hotel and while the staff have limited English you will get by ok and if you need something there will be someone there who has enough english to help you out. Its about 40 minutes plus by taxi to the Bund area but remember the taxis may be hard to find to get you back there after 8pm as they may find it hard to get back with a fare and therefore may not want to take you. There is a metro close to the hotel if you are desperate and want to be squashed in like a sardine in a tin-some of our colleagues did the metro with no hassles.
"Stayed here on a tour"
Very nice hotel ...good sized rooms ...clean and comfortable with nice bathroom. Language barrier can be a problem but most staff speak limited English. No porters available to help with luggage. The hotel was very busy when we were there which meant at times we had to wait in line for some breakfast foods but nothing too drastic. Shopping centre close by within easy walking distance. Would recommend this hotel
Clean & Cozy rooms, Very friendly staff But difficult to communicate as most of them don't even have minimum knowledge of English. Any attempt to get from the room service becomes very difficult due to this. They come to the room to understand what you want !
Can you imagine a sink that doesn't empty, a fridge that doesn't get cold, air-conditioning that doesn't work, breakfast where there is no western food and no cutlery to eat with, a bar that does not sell cold white wine & a room that smells of cigarette smoke - welcome to the Wyndham on the Bund! Add to that room service where it cannot go on the room tab....one has to go to the main foyer at 11:00pm at night to pay a room service bill. Seriously Wyndham this is a disgrace. I cannot believe that you can still operate under the high standard that Wyndham hotels expects.....strike them off your list Wyndham - they are an embarrassment!
"ecellent any time of the day or night"
the most essential hangout place in Shanghai. Fairly easy to get to via the Metro system. You meet all sorts of people. Very clean and tidy with a great view of the river and historic buildings. Not far from the Yuyuan Old Street.
