"Old, worn and stale .. Disappointing"
Stayed at the palace art for four nights. Well located for all of the pizza's attractions and squares. However, the hotel was very disappointing. Room was fair with decor that needed a revamp as it seemed old. Shower was difficult to work out , it was either too hot or too cold. Lighting system needed some bulbs replacing. The facilities seemed to need a good clean. Bed was nice and confort able but it was very noisy at weekends. Breakfast was a joke I can't belive that they can serve cold scrambled eggs and chopped pancetta. The selection was poor with no fresh fruit or juice. All in all, and summing up a very poor stay in a hotel that we thought was luxury and of high standard.
I'd would give this hotel two stars for location and staff. Every employee was very friendly and helpful but clearly working within the constrained parameters of a declining hotel. The location is very central and convenient. The website does not portray the current standard of the hotel. There is an underlining sadness and neglect that permeates throughout the entire property. The lobby is dark, the bar appears closed and unstaffed. When we inquired as to when the bar would open we were informed that it was opened at they would send someone to make our drinks. We took seats at two bar stools and someone, who appeared to have little bar tending experience, had a hard time pouring a beer and a glass of wine. The entire property seems unfinished and run down at the same time. The glass on the open elevator is filthy. When you reach the top, 3rd, floor the overheard glass covering is covering with algae/mossy dirt. Our room was spacious and quiet. It was on an internal courtyard. The bathroom seemed inexpensive. The shower stall was flimsy and the size of an old-school phone booth. Overall. Definitely not worth the money. Even it were cheaper it would still be depressing. Too bad for us!
I have to say I just do not recognise some of the descriptions for this hotel. Having just stayed for 6 nights I would not hesitate to return. Friendly staff, centrally located ( but on a quietish street) with easy access to the local culture & restaurants.Small spa which we enjoyed every day (though the sauna wasn't working) which you need to book and takes a maximum of 4 people. as much as you would want to eat for breakfast.
"Dank, dirty and dated "
This hotel is in need of a deep cleaning, new paint, and a number of updates. The staff they have was helpful and friendly. But, the hotel could benefit from hiring more staff. Given these short-comings, I feel it's tremendously overpriced.
"Ideal base, quality relaxing hotel"
We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of July. All the reviews read that it was a great location and that we couldn't argue with less than 5 min walk to main streets, the best location we have experienced in Florence. The hotel was very clean, very well presented and interesting in design. The staff were extremely attentive and couldn't fault a thing. Breakfast was also good, typically Italian with the option of cooked eggs and bacon great coffee. We used the spa one night, again the staff had this all prepped and ready for us. We stayed over the weekend, 35 degree heat - no issue with air conditioning and no experience of noise from the road ( we had two rooms at the front of the hotel) we would book this hotel in a flash and would recommend to others.
