"Get the larger room"
This hotel has a lot of positives. The location is on a pedestrian street less than a 10 minutes walk from both the Royal Palace and Puerto del Sol. There is both a refrigerator and a safe in the room. They stock the refrigerator with complementary soft drinks and a beer, and replace them each day. The bathroom was modern and very nice. Our room had a small balcony, covered in astro-turf ('!). The hotel is clean and neat. Breakfast is not included, but there are many options nearby. The staff is reasonably helpful. However, our room was uncomfortably tiny. We had to clean off the desk and put one of our two suitcases on it, because there was no other place. There was barely enough room for me to put my feet between the bed and the wall. The bathroom door did not fit the door frame and would not close. We would stay here again only with a larger room. I don't know what this would do to the value equation.
"Uncomfortable stay "
The hotel as a whole is very clean, modern and spacious. The breakfast was excellent and the staff lovely. There were, however, a few things that made our stay uncomfortable. Firstly, the inability to turn on air conditioning. A lot of places in Europe turn their air conditioning off in the warmer months. We visited in November and although it was cold out, it was very warm/hot in the hotel. As a result, we had to sleep with the window open to cool ourselves down each night. This brought in a LOT of noise from down below (we were on the first floor) as well as cigarette smoke. This resulted in poor sleep for the 5 nights we were there. The location is fantastic, however, there is a lot of noise down below until the early hours of the morning. Some nights people were out yelling until 5-6am. Secondly, there was regularly a cigarette smell down the corridor. I’m unsure if there are smoking rooms, however, this smell would eventually clear out during the day. Lastly, on a few occasions when we showered, the shower would blast freezing cold then piping hot water every 10 seconds during the entire duration of the shower which was just awful. The bathroom would flood with water each time as well due to the shower door not containing the water as it swings open on a hinge. We’d have to use all our daily towels to mop up the bathroom. It’s a nice hotel and a good price, however, for the reasons mentioned above, I think I’d stay elsewhere next time.
"One beautiful week in Madrid in November"
Hotel Preciados is a very nice and cosy hotel with very good location and very nice staff. We liked it very much. There is still left some old times charm in this hotel. We will absolutely stay there again when back in Madrid.
Overall a nice hotel in a central location. Room had to be changed to a room with a window for getting fresh air! Would be good if the staff smiled. Excellent breakfast and good cafe in the hotel and many restaurants in the promenade where the hotel is located.
"Hotel that went the extra mile"
Lovely hotel in the heart of Madrid. Room and breakfast were excellent. Sometimes you only really know how good a hotel is when you have a problem. A few hours before we were due to leave Spain for the UK one of our passports was stolen on the street in Madrid. No idea when, where or how but it had gone. The hotel were really helpful by phoning the police and then the manager then took us to the local police station and interpreted for us. Within a couple of hours we had managed to obtain a temporary passport and were able to continue our journey (albeit with new flights). We couldn't recommend the service enough. Thank you for your help, it was really appreciated at a time when it was needed. Other travellers beware - the thief was very effective. We have no memory of any time when anyone was close enough to steal the passport from a zipped up handbag over the shoulder.
