I stayed at the Mondrian after it was renovated years ago. 1998' It has held up well and they must have done a renovation in between because this is the type of hotel that gets trashed. All white furniture, party crowd, etc. I would never stay here by choice. It was okay for business. The pool scene is tired. The food is meh. I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. Stay away if you want anything but a super young party scene.
While we enjoyed our stay, we don't think we will return to the Mondrian. My husband and I are in our mid to late 30's and feel that this hotel is targeted more towards the high flying 20 somethings that check in and check out, and are covered head to toe is designer clothes and accessories. The Ivory restaurant was fabulous, food and service was wonderful, I cant speak highly enough of the staff, all of the food quality on each dining occasion was lovely. The interior design of the restaurant is quite luxe and the views of LA are incredible. However I did feel the crowd was quite pretentious at their bar. Sky bar was quite similar - it looks amazing, the floral external walls are just gorgeous, the pool gets very busy, whether it be guests or friends of guests, its hard to get a spot by the pool which was disappointing, and my husband and I felt like as we weren't there to "party" and buy magnums of alcohol we received less care and attention. The vibe of the whole hotel is very "cool" rather than luxurious. it is very clean, comfortable and staff are nice and well presented.
"If you like being made to feel like a piece of #$%^& this hotel is for you!"
First Impressions Check-in was fairly easy. Parking a car overnight will run you $44+ which is a little higher than average for the area. The pool is nice if not a bit small for the crowd that was there that weekend. Definitely not a family friendly place. Pool + Skybar The pool and pool bar is a pretty awful experience. Drinks through the server took 45 min to an hour each time, and there seemed to be only one server for the entire pool area of 50 people or so. If you think you can bypass this wait and go straight to the bar you may shave off 20 minutes, but you'll still be waiting for quite some time. Amenities + Room Service For a hotel that charges a premium and feels upscale the folks running it sure make you feel like an annoyance. After a 10 minute search for an ice machine on our floor we call down to the front desk to an annoyed agent who assures us its across from room bla bla bla. After discovering an empty stairwell in that location we call down again to find that there is indeed no ice machine on the 8th floor (any floor') and someone would be up with a bucket shortly. Shortly = 1 hour btw. I swear anytime we called someone from the room *if* they picked up you could almost feel their eyes roll through the phone at you. Overall Our bill for 1 night's stay that included 3 people in a 2 bedroom room, late night room service, and parking came out to $740. From our experience it may have been worth half that.
"fun hip place to stay for party animals"
really enjoyed my stay, the highlight of the trip was the sunday pool party. Its fun young and chic. I stayed in a suite, "disclaimer" the shower is in the middle of the room, so if your not comfortable with see your companions naked shadow form, then you might want to pick another room. the staff : very friendly, great at giving direction The location: Walk distance from shops and great places to eat, lots of fun bars around
I have been staying at the Mondrian LA for about 15 years....it's still the best located hotel in LA. It has the most amazing views and I always feel like I'm at home! The Concierge hooked us up with an amazing table at 'The Little Door' the night before the Emmys and the front desk staff was super helpful with my package deliveries.
