"Hotel needs refurbishment"
This hotel is in need of refurbishment and renovation. The facade, lobby, rooms, corridors and lifts are extremely old. Entrance to hotel does not have a ramp - you have to carry up your bags. The standard twin we were given was basic and bare -- akin to a room in a backpacker or hostel. It was so small we had to ask for furniture to be removed. And there was no air conditioning -- London was having a heat wave then and the heat in the room was unbearable. Despite these the room rates were not cheap, compared to hotels in the vicinity. Not value for money and a hotel to be avoided in London.
This is a great hotel for the price, location is excellent, it is possible to walk to all major areas of the city. I recommend spending the extra money on an executive room, standard rooms are "cozy". Great breakfast Staff extremely friendly and helpful. I stay there every time I am in London
"Worst hotel I've stayed in"
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are extremely rude, blatantly lie to you and the rooms are terrible. No air conditioning for 4 nights in 35 degree heat. The shower is in the bath however the bath doesn't drain, so you are up to your knees in water. The shower curtain doesn't fit so the water goes everywhere. It's that small that you could literally go to the toilet, brush your teeth and have a shower all at the same time. Unless you are extremely desperate do yourself a favor and go else where.
"Central hotel for our London stay"
We chose this hotel as we wanted to be within walking distance of most central London attractions, and also to be very easy to get to on the tube. Check in was very quick and very friendly and only took a few minutes. We stayed in an Executive King room on the 5th floor, at the front of the hotel, which over looked the Strand. The room was a fair size and plenty of space for our clothes, the wifi was very good and free. The Ipod docking station, did play our ipod via the speaker jack, but didn't charge it. The bed was comfy and the shower worked very well. There was noise from The Strand, but with the windows closed and the wooden shutters closed, it was fine. Breakfast was a buffet, which was great as we could chose what and how much we wanted. There were cold meats, cheese, fruit, breads, and a full chose of hot food, ie. Sausages, bacon, eggs etc etc. All the staff were very polite and friendly. Check out took seconds as you just put your room card in a box. Would recommend this for a comfy, relaxing hotel, in the middle of everything good in London.
"One Stay In Winter And One To Come In Summer"
Stayed here in winter just before Christmas. Will stay again for a week in July. A great location so close to all the theatres, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and the Underground. My room was quite small as was the 'double bed' but pleasant, clean and very comfortable. The English breakfast is awesome and I swear I put on weight during the week I stayed here. Hence the need for the gym.... It's small but adequate. The doorman are cheekily friendly too. The Savoy is just over the road but unfortunately my company refused my request to stay there!! Love this place and would highly recommend it.
